As an independent research library, the Library Company isn’t funded by a parent organization; rather, it has relied for 275 years on the generosity of individuals whose responsible stewardship has created an institution with remarkable holdings and financial stability. Through bequests of collections and funds, those benefactors, in providing for the future of the Library Company, helped make the institution what it is today — an internationally-renowned repository of historical treasures available to all readers free of charge.
Today, your planned gift will not only contribute to the Library Company, it could also produce tax advantages and income for yourself or others. As a steward of our future, you will be included in the James Rush Society in honor of Dr. James Rush whose books and papers are an important part of our collection. Rush Society members are duly noted at Library Company Annual Meetings and other events and in Library Company publications.

Be in the company of friends. In 2002, bequest giving reached approximately $18 billion or 7.5% of total charitable giving. Making a bequest to the Library Company is easy, does not affect assets or cash flow during your lifetime, and can be changed at any time. Bequests may also remain private or with your permission you can be recognized through the James Rush Society.
