The James B. Rich Photograph Collection includes more than 1300 images taken by James Rich during the family’s jaunts around the Philadelphia area with friends. Originally a bicycle salesman, Rich changed careers and became a professional photographer in the first years of the 20th century. His photographic interest centered on landscapes and many of his images document areas in the Philadelphia region that have disappeared with today’s suburban sprawl. This month’s Ben’s Lens records the family’s trip to Valley Forge Park in May 1936.
