Ben's Lens: April 2009

Founded in 1832 by Matthias W. Baldwin, Baldwin Locomotive Works occupied a seventeen acre site at Broad and Spring Garden Streets in Philadelphia. All types of locomotive engines were produced there and shipped all over the world. In 1928 Baldwin Locomotive Works relocated to the town of Eddystone in Delaware County.
This view, part of the library’s Aero Service Collection, was scanned during work on our special format photography project. Thanks to the generosity of our funders, the Abington Foundation and the Ed Lee and Jean Campe Foundation, the Library Company recently digitized our entire cased photograph collection consisting of more than 280 daguerreotypes and ambrotypes and scanned and catalogued more than 650 glass and film negatives in our Aero Service Collection.
