Ben's Lens: September 2012
Our Ben’s Lens depicts one of Fairmount Park’s lesser known treasures, Glendinning Rock Garden. Located just north of the Girard Avenue Bridge, the garden opened in 1936 and honored Robert and Elizabeth Glendinning. Robert Glendinning, a successful banker active in Philadelphia social, political, and civic circles, served as a Fairmount Park Commissioner. This photograph is part of the Library Company’s Photo-Illustrators collection of commercial photographs documenting city sites, events, and businesses primarily between the 1920s and 1950s.
