Ben's Lens: November 2011
The Photo-Illustrators, a Philadelphia commercial photography studio, recorded the construction of St. Andrew’s Chapel in this month’s Ben’s Lens. The Philadelphia Divinity School, hired the architectural firm of Zantzinger, Borie and Medary of Philadelphia to design St. Andrew’s Chapel as part of their West Philadelphia campus. Built in the mid-1920s at 42nd and Spruce Streets, the building is a good example of Neo-Gothic architecture and boasts metal work by Samuel Yellin and stained glass windows by Nicola D’Ascenzo. The Philadelphia Divinity School joined its sister institution in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1974 and their former campus is now owned by the University of Pennsylvania.
