Ben's Lens: November 2010

This lithograph, one of hundreds cataloged and scanned as part of the Philadelphia On Stone project (http://www.librarycompany.org/pos/), depicts the gatehouse of the Odd Fellows’ Cemetery near Diamond and Twenty-fourth Street in North Philadelphia. Thomas Ustick Walter, the architect of Girard College and the United States Capitol dome, designed the structure. In 1951, one hundred and one years after its establishment, the cemetery closed and the bodies were removed to other local cemeteries.
